Chargers Lowering Price For Some Seats in Qualcomm Stadium Next Season

The Chargers announced that they’re dropping the price on certain tickets for the 2011 season and keeping the same prices for the rest for a fourth straight year.

Some 6,500 View Level end zone tickets will be priced at $54, down nearly 15 percent from the previous price of $63.

With the lower ticket price in the View Level section, the team believes it will have a better chance to achieve sellouts of Qualcomm Stadium.

Chargers Fire Special Teams Coach Steve Crosby

The problems with special teams that plagued the San Diego Chargers throughout the season on Monday cost Steve Crosby his job.

Crosby was let go by the Chargers after Head Coach Norv Turner decided against renewing his contract. Crosby had been with the Chargers for the last nine years.

“We appreciate Steve’s hard work and dedication to this team over the last nine seasons,” Turner said in a statement.

There was no immediate word on a replacement.

At the midway point of the season, with the Chargers struggling amid a slew of blocked punts and blown kickoff coverages, Turner passionately defended the work of Crosby after being asked whether Crosby’s job was in danger. At the time, Turner said it was wrong to blame the coach when missed assignments on the field were the cause of the problems.

Chargers vs. Broncos: Ryan Mathews Rushes San Diego Past Denver

Ryan Mathews The Chargers fell short of the playoffs but they clinched another winning season by hanging on to beat the Denver Broncos 33-28 in Sunday’s finale.

San Diego finished the season 9-7 behind a big day from rookie Ryan Mathews, who ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns.

The Broncos lost for the third time in four games since interim coach Eric Studesville took over for the fired Josh McDaniels. Denver finished the year at 4-12, the most losses in a season in the team’s 51-year history.

Rookie Tim Tebow started the final three games at quarterback for the Broncos, going 1-2 and he made things interesting in the finale. He passed for two scores and ran for another in addition to coming close on a couple of desperation passes into the end zone in the final seconds.

With the loss, the Broncos locked-up the second overall pick in the draft. Studesville is to be interviewed for the permanent coaching job next week but he’s considered a long shot.

Change is looming for the Broncos. John Elway, the Hall of Famer who quarterbacked the Broncos to two Super Bowl titles in the late 1990s, is expected to formally rejoin the franchise in a matter of days as an executive overseeing the team’s football operations. No official word from the team yet but a deal could be finalized as soon as early this week, reports say.

Broncos’ CB Champ Bailey Inactive for Game Against San Diego

DENVER — Cornerback Champ Bailey may already have played his final game for the Denver Broncos.

Bailey, who is eligible for free agency after this season, left last Sunday’s game against Houston with a right heel injury. He was unable to practice this week and was listed among the Broncos‘ inactive players prior to Sunday’s season finale against the San Diego Chargers.

For the third consecutive week, Kyle Orton was listed as the Broncos’ inactive or emergency quarterback. Orton has been bothered by a rib injury that has limited him in recent practices. Tim Tebow is slated to make his third consecutive start in his place.

Bailey has spent seven of his 12 NFL seasons in Denver, and he said last Thursday he understood that he may have played his final game for the Broncos, although he still hopes to return.

Chargers vs. Broncos, Preview, Score and More

Rookie quarterback Tim Tebow will make his third career start for the Denver Broncos in Sunday’s finale against the Chargers. Although there are no playoff implications, Tebow has plenty riding on the game as he tries to establish himself as the Broncos‘ franchise quarterback.

A week ago, Tebow passed for 308 yards and threw for a score and ran for another in leading a stirring comeback victory against a vulnerable Houston defense. But in San Diego, he’ll be facing the NFL‘s top-ranked defense, which is tied for the league lead in sacks with 44. The Chargers won the first meeting between the AFC West rivals in November as Philip Rivers threw for four touchdowns, each going to a different receiver in a 35-14 decision. San Diego lost at Cincinnati last week to fall out of the playoffs, which ends a string of four consecutive division titles for the Chargers. The last three were under Head Coach Norv Turner, who already has been assured by management that he’s coming back next season.

Chargers vs. Bengals: Carson Palmer’s Big Game Wipes Out San Diego

Carson PalmerThe San Diego Chargers were eliminated from playoff contention with Sunday’s 34-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, a surprising upset in a game in which the Bengals had nothing to play for.

Also surprising: Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer had his best game of the year, even though star receivers Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens both missed the game with injuries. Palmer’s performance was a strong statement that the Bengals could be better off without Ochocinco and Owens in 2011.

Some thoughts on the game:
