Brad Keselowski Charges to Victory in Richmond Nationwide Race

FanHouse Newswireby FanHouse NewswireRICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Brad Keselowski raced to his second straight NASCAR Nationwide Series victory, shrugging off a NASCAR penalty earlier this week, dominating all night and then rallying from fourth in a green-white-checker finish Friday at Richmond International Raceway.

Keselowski began rebuilding his series points lead, cut to 10 points after he won at Talladega last week and then failed post-race inspection and was docked 50 points. The victory gave Keselowski a 59-point advantage over Kevin Harvick.

It basically restored the lead Keselowski had after winning last weekend at Talladega, only to see 50 points deducted from his total after NASCAR slapped fines and points deductions on the team upon finding an unauthorized spring and shock absorber on his car after the Alabama race.

Keselowski, an eight-time winner in his Nationwide career, was on pace to lead the last 192 laps, but pitted as the leader under caution with five laps to go, handing Kyle Busch the lead.

But Keselowski reasserted his dominance by powering through the field on new tires to pass Busch and teammate Justin Allgaier, who had also stayed out, to win by 0.261 seconds.

“We made the right moves today,” Keselowski said. “We had the car to beat.”

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Justin Allgaier grabbed the first win of his NASCAR career Saturday by passing teammate Brad Keselowski on a late restart, then holding him off over the closing laps of the Nationwide race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Allgaier, last year’s Nationwide Series rookie of the year, had to hold his line over the final 27 laps to keep Keselowski from passing him.

“That battle with Brad at the end was awesome, and I couldn’t have been happier at the end to see two Penske cars up there running for the win,” Allgaier said in his first visit to Victory Lane.

The win was the first for Dodge at Bristol since Aug., 2007.

Keselowski, the pole-sitter who led 73 laps, finished second to give team owner Roger Penske his first 1-2 finish in the Nationwide Series.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — At some point, the folks at Daytona International Speedway might have to start etching Tony Stewart‘s name in the February Nationwide Series race trophy before they drop the green flag.

Stewart won Saturday’s Drive4COPD 300 at the famous 2.5-mile track, holding off last lap charges by Justin Allgaier and Carl Edwards, to take his fifth win in his last six tries in the Nationwide season-opener.

Edwards finished second, Kevin Harvick third, Allgaier fourth and Brian Vickers fifth.

What, exactly is Stewart’s secret of success?

“I wish I knew because I’d sell it to somebody,” Stewart said in Daytona’s victory lane, the 15th time he’s been there in his career. “We’ve just been so fortunate so many times. As much as I’d love to say that I’m really that good, there’s a lot of luck that goes into winning these things.”
