Report: Chargers’ Jackson, McNeill Prepared to Sit Out 2010

Vincent JacksonRestricted free agents Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill of the San Diego Chargers are prepared to sit out the 2010 season, presumably until they have long-term contracts, according to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune on Tuesday.

The newspaper said that the Chargers sent letters to both Jackson and McNeill, informing them that their 2010 salaries would be drastically cut if they did not sign their one-year tenders before June 15.

Citing sources, the Union-Tribune reported that agents for both players recently told the Chargers that they wouldn’t see Jackson and McNeill for “some time” if the organization sent the aforementioned letters. Alvin Keels and Neil Schwart, agents for Jackson and McNeill, respectively, did not officially comment to the newspaper.

However, while “some time” can be interpreted as one sees fit, sources told the newspaper that the “players are prepared to sit out into the season and even through 2010.”

According to the newspaper, Jackson will have his salary reduced from $3.268 million to $583,000 if he does not sign in the next week. McNeill’s salary would go from $3.168 million to $600,000.
