Jabaal SheardJabaal Sheard may be headed toward a reprieve. After racking up several assault-related charges for allegedly throwing a man through an art gallery’s glass doors, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Pitt’s star defensive end and his lawyer are working with prosecutors on a settlement that would drop the case against him.

Sheard’s scheduled hearing was postponed until August 4th while the parties attempt to work on a deal apparently involving Sheard repaying the medical costs and lost wages of his alleged victim, Edward Parker.

The cause of the incident remains unclear, but police reports indicated that Sheard refused to stop fighting and beat Parker’s head and face until a spray subdued him. This after throwing him through the La Fond Gallery’s glass doors.

That netted him a string of charges, including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

Normally, Sheard’s art is on the field, where he’s been a standout defensive end for the Panthers the past two seasons.
