Spotter’s Stand: David Reutimann Had Replication in Mind

Notables, quotables and commentary after 600 miles in Charlotte, where FanHouse’s Geoffrey Miller spent the weekend not in the Spotter’s Stand, but in fan mode.
David Reutimann looked like a guy bent on showing he can win more races in the Sprint Cup Series with his fifth-place run on Sunday night.
Reutimann won last year’s Coca-Cola 600 after rain finally halted the race for good early Monday morning. He snatched the checkers thanks to a smart call from his crew chief to stay on track while the leaders all pitted. That put him in the lead, and the ensuing rain cemented him there. In the year since, many have treated Reutimann’s win as something of a gimmick.
The No. 00 team made more of a statement this time — they were a solid, competitive team all night in Charlotte. Throughout the 600 miles, Reutimann maintained the second-best average running position (4.03) of all drivers behind winner Kurt Busch‘s 1.53.
