Silver Linings Abound in Hanley Saga

Fredi Gonzalez and Hanley RamirezOne of the best things that has ever happened to the Florida Marlins organization happened last week. You may have heard about it.

Hanley Ramirez didn’t hustle and his manager Fredi Gonzalez yanked him out of the game. Ramirez demeaned Gonzalez in the media, ridiculing him for never playing in the major leagues. Gonzalez wanted Ramirez to apologize to his teammates for his lack of hustle. Ramirez said over his dead body. Then the Marlins put their two Hall of Famers, Andre Dawson and Tony Perez, on Ramirez and he seemed to get the message. Ramirez apologized and was put back in the lineup.

So much has been said and written about what happened. Many have been critical of Ramirez, calling him a prima donna. Some have been critical of Gonzalez, claiming he overreacted and embarrassed his superstar. A select few believe this will precipitate a deal and that Ramirez’s days are numbered in South Florida.

You might be wondering what’s so great about all this.
