Tiger Woods Responds to Rory McIlroy as Ryder Cup Heats Up

The already heated Ryder Cup rivalry between the United States and Europe needs no further fuel to the fire. But Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland has not minced words in past weeks, challenging the world’s No. 1 golfer, Tiger Woods.

“I would love to face him,” McIlroy said in an interview with the BBC last month. “Unless his game rapidly improves in the next month or so, I think anyone in the European team would fancy his chances against him.”

Tiger finally responded to the Northern Ireland native on Tuesday in Wales.

When Woods was asked to respond to McIlroy’s comments he didn’t do much talking. He responded by saying, “Me, too,” and gave an emphatic “No” when asked to elaborate.

Woods, known for his competitive and unrelenting spirit, has taken heed to McIlroy’s comment.

McIlroy, however, attempted to backtrack on his statements regarding Woods, noting that he said them after Bridgestone when Woods fired a career-high 72-hole professional worst score.

“So he wasn’t playing too well at that time,” McIlroy said. “He’s obviously getting his game together, and he’s working with Sean Foley and he’s making a few swing changes. I said this week and last week, I don’t mind who. I just want to win points against the team.”
