Shaquille O’Neal Sued for Computer Hacking, Destruction of Evidence

Shaquille O’Neal is being sued in Dade County, Florida, by a former employee of his, Shawn Darling.

This type of thing (people suing rich, famous people) happens every single day. But the details of Shaq’s lawsuit aren’t your average, every day civil complaint from an ex-employee.

Radar Online is reporting exclusively that Darling is suing Shaq for some pretty heavy stuff: computer hacking and destruction of evidence. (A PDF of the public document is here.)

Darling claims that he worked for O’Neal — and O’Neal’s wife, Shaunie, as well as his “associates” and children as well — from late 2007 until November 2009, and that during that time, Shaq had him “wipe” Shaq’s computers and delete the information in his “AOL” account in relation to other legal issues.

Darling also claims that Shaq conspired with former members of law enforcement to help plant child pornography on Darling’s computer, that Shaq tried to break into Darling’s voicemail account, that Shaq destroyed evidence by throwing a personal computer into a lake and that there’s proof of many extramarital affairs on various forms of electronic correspondence owned by O’Neal.

It’s quite the nasty little lawsuit and it’s not the type of thing that O’Neal probably wants to deal with.

Tiger Woods Among Corey Pavin’s Ryder Cup Captain’s Choices

Filed under:

Tiger Woods was named by Corey Pavin as one of the four “captain’s choices” for the 2010 Ryder Cup on Tuesday morning.

Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler (the first rookie to ever make the Ryder Cup team) joined Woods as well, and all four men seemed particularly excited about the opportunity.

“It’s really exciting for me, obviously, to be included on the team,” Cink said. “I think this makes my third time getting picked (as a captain’s choice) which is getting close to a record. Which means I must not be that good at qualifying.”

Woods, however, hasn’t exactly had that trouble — he’s typically the first guy locked into the Ryder Cup, but obviously this season was different. Pavin refused, however, to acknowledge that he’d been thinking about Tiger’s inability to qualify on his own.

“Well, what I was trying to do was not form any opinions until almost this weekend,” Pavin said. “I didn’t want to overburden myself so I just waited and waited and waited. Tiger’s one of 12 guys on the team, and everyone’s as important as the other.”

UNC Schedules Press Conference After Report of Academic Violations

Butch DavisThe University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, according to Inside Carolina, uncovered some “academic issues in their own review” and self-reported these findings to the NCAA.

These self-reports come on the heels of two separate trips by NCAA investigators and, as a result of the NCAA’s investigations and Carolina’s decision to self-report these academic violations, the university has announced a press conference at 7:30 p.m. EST Thursday.

It is believed and has been reported by numerous outlets, notably Joe Schad of ESPN, that as many as nine players — and possibly more, many of whom are believed to be “standouts” or “starters” — were placed on the scout squad after coach Butch Davis closed Thursday’s practice to the media.

The reports coming out of Chapel Hillas well as nationally — imply that the “academic issues” relate to a tutor or former tutor and was reportedly uncovered by numerous e-mails maintained on the UNC servers. It is believed that these “academic issues” are separate from the NCAA’s investigation into agent interaction.

Corey Pavin: Tiger ‘High on My List’ as Ryder Cup Pick

Tiger WoodsTiger Woods didn’t make the list of players who automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup based on their standings amongst U.S. golfers.

But ignore for a second the awkwardness of Tiger missing that cut and look at the silver lining: Corey Pavin, the Ryder Cup captain, has Woods “high on my list” as one of the four captain’s choices that Pavin has to make by Sept. 7.

You may recall that Pavin and Jim Gray had a little spat over the possibility of Tiger joining the Ryder Cup without qualifying: Gray reported that Pavin had already promised Tiger a spot, Pavin subsequently denied Gray’s report, Gray came up to Pavin at the PGA Championship and told him he was “going down.”

This little fracas is important because, clearly, Pavin wasn’t happy with Gray’s behavior or his claims and likely won’t want to make it appear as if he did make any promises to Woods.

Additionally, Pavin said he’d like to see Tiger improve his tournament performance leading up to that deadline, but it’s entirely possible that his statement is just to make sure that people know he’s not already settled on adding Woods to the Ryder Cup field.

The only three tournaments remaining before Pavin’s deadline are the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., this coming week, The Barclay’s and the Deutsche Bank Championship — the latter two are FedExCup tourneys.

Summer Scramble 2010: NFC West Burning Questions, Bold Predictions

Michael CrabtreeIt’s July, the slowest month of the year for the NFL. So what better time to start breaking down the upcoming season? From July 6-27, FanHouse will take an in-depth look at each division to help prepare you for training camp. We’re calling it our Summer Scramble.

Who’s going to get Matt Leinart‘s blindside?

The Cardinals have retooled their line. Mike Gandy is gone from the left tackle spot. Alan Faneca, who the Jets didn’t think was worthy of manning left guard for Mark Sanchez, is in. He’ll pair on the left side with Levi Brown, the Cards’ 2007 first-rounder, who would be getting a promotion with a move from right to left tackle … except Leinart is left-handed. In other words, the Cardinals don’t trust Brown enough to keep Leinart safe. In Brown’s place, Brandon Keith and Jeremy Bridges will likely vie for the tackle spot, while Deuce Lutui and Reggie Wells — the latter of whom is moving from the left side for Faneca to jump in — will compete at guard as the Cardinals try to form some amalgamation of right-side blocking designed not to get Leinart killed.

It should be fun to watch, unless you’re Ken Whisenhunt.

Summer Scramble 2010: NFC West Players to Watch

Coming July 27: NFC West Burning Questions, Bold Predictions

Arizona Cardinals Matt Leinart

Teams lose players every offseason. But even with the occasional defection, it’s atypical to see a team lose the face of the franchise. That is exactly what happened to the Cardinals this year though when Kurt Warner retired. Replacing him? The former first-rounder Leinart who, once upon a floundering franchise, managed to lose his job to Warner in the desert. Which means that, for better or (more likely) worse, the fate of the Cardinals’ success through the air this year relies on Leinart. The good news is that he still has Larry Fitzgerald at wideout and the emerging Beanie Wells in the backfield. The bad news is that Anquan Boldin‘s out the door to Baltimore, which puts plenty of pressure on Steve Breaston and Early Doucet to help Leinart out. Ultimately, though, a regression by the Cardinals would fall on him.
